Recently hailed as “one of the world’s great orchestras” by China Daily, the Academy of Ancient Music specialises in performing baroque and classical music on instruments and in styles dating from the time when the pieces were composed. It has performed on every continent except Antarctica and has made over 250 recordings since its formation by Christopher Hogwood in 1973. Since Richard Egarr took up the post of Music Director in 2006 the AAM has been acclaimed for the freshness and vitality of its recordings and performances worldwide. His first recording as Music Director, Handel Concerti grossi op.3, won the Gramophone Award for baroque instrumental music; his second, Handel Organ Concertos op.4, won the MIDEM Classical Award for concertos and the Edison Classical Music Award.
