Joel Frederiksen studied voice and lute in New York and Michigan, where he received his master’s degree. Since then he has worked with leading American early music groups including the Boston Camerata and the Waverly Consort.At the same time he made himself visible as an opera and oratorio soloist. Engagements led him from the Vancouver Summer Festival (Plutone in Monteverdi’s ) to festivals in Hong Kong and Brisbane. After his debut at the Salzburg Summer Festival ( under Dennis Russel Davies) he decided to make Europe his home. Since that time he has sung regularly with important ensembles for Early Music including the Huelgas-Ensemble, the Freiburger Baroque Orchestra, Ensemble Gilles Binchois, Hassler Consort, and Musica fiata. With these ensembles and as a soloist he has worked with Paul O’Dette, Stephen Stubbs, and Jordi Savall.For many years Joel Frederiksen has dedicated himself intensively to his specialty – that of the self-accompanied lute song.
