MARK PADMORE and ROGER VIGNOLES head July release

Mark Padmore, who will be appearing twice at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall in music-theatre works by Sir Harrison Birtwistle, champions the works of Benjamin Britten on his latest release, accompanied by Roger Vignoles.

"Padmore's sound is more beautiful and easily expressive than Pears's ever was, but he never imposes his own personality too forcefully, content to let the natural inflections of the bespoke vocal lines in the Donne cycle follow their own course." The Guardian

American Grammy-nominated choir, Conspirare are joined on their second release for harmonia mundi by Company of Voices in a programme which includes two premieres: We remember them by Donald Grantham and Eliza Gilkyson's Requiem, written in response to the catastrophic Asian tsunami in 2004.

The July release closes with a programme of 'Cries' from the hugely entertaining Ensemble Clement Janequin and their director, Dominique Visse which may well have you crying "Oyez"!

SNEAK PREVIEW FOR AUGUST

To coincide with four performances at English National Opera, on 3rd, 7th, 9th and 11th July, harmonia mundi has brought forward its release of Kaija Saariaho's L'amour de loin from September to August.

Composed to a libretto by Amin Maalouf and premiered at Salzburg in 2000 in a production by Peter Sellars, L'amour de loin was Saariaho's first opera. This reinterpretation of the medieval narrative of the life of the troubadour Jaufré Rudel tackles a number of highly topical themes: love from afar, the virtuality of ideal love, and relations between East and West.

The 2-SACD set of this five-act opera, directed by Kent Nagano, will be released in the UK on Monday 27th July.
