Belshazzar ist düster und pessimistisch, eine unverblümte Auseinandersetzung mit dem Schicksal der Imperien und ihrer Herrscher. Die Einspielung von William Christie und Les Arts Florissants aus dem Jahr 2013 stellt eine sehr edle, erhabende Version dieses großartigen Oratoriums dar.
