Biography

Diego Ares studied the piano with Aleksandras Jurgelionis and Aldona Dvarionaitė. At the age of fourteen Pilar Cancio introduced him to the harpsichord. In 2002 he moved to Holland to work with Richard Egarr. Between 2004 and 2010 he studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He perfected his technique with the harpsichordists Carmen Schibli and Genoveva Gálvez. Diego Ares has given recitals in Europe and Japan.

He has recorded for Columna Música, Pan Classics and harmonia mundi. His most recent recording, devoted to the unpublished sonatas of Padre Antonio Soler, roused the enthusiasm of the international press and received such awards as the Diapason d’Or, ‘Choc’ de Classica, ‘Maestro’ de Pianiste, ‘Excepcional’ de Scherzo, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. He has taught classes in harpsichord and fortepiano at the Hochschule der Musik in Trossingen (Germany).
