1778: Mozart’s Paris comeback Fourteen years after his first dazzling appearance in the salons of Paris, the composer set out to reconquer a public avid for virtuosos on any and every instrument, where the ‘symphonie concertante’ reigned supreme. Within the pre-existing mould, Mozart produced – yet again – three scores bubbling over with invention: they are all featured on this CD, including the alternative andante of the ‘Paris’ Symphony. But this frivolous French spring was soon to take a dramatic turn . . .
