What’s that? Offenbach wrote works for cello? Yes indeed: though everyone is familiar with his fabulous talent as a composer of operettas, very few people know that he was also a brilliant cellist. Even though the two suites presented on this disc bristle with difficulties for the performers, there is in this work a breath of insouciance, a spontaneous outpouring of melody which prompted their composer to remark: ‘I will certainly die with a tune at the tip of my pen.’

This title was released for the first time in 1985.
