Les musiciens de la Réforme

Composers of the Reformation

The musical settings made in the wake of the Reformation (1517) were initially the work of little-known composers, when it was not Luther himself if we consider the chorales. Compared with music for the Catholic church that is as overabundant as it is sumptuous, here is a corpus based on the economy of means that would continue to develop and expand throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, culminating in the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. Many composers of Protestant faith came before Bach, and many would follow after.
