Arias de zarzuelas

José de Nebra dominated the 18th Spanish music scene: often commissioned to compose for official events, he wrote numerous zarzuelas and, as organist, left an important legacy of religious music. Of the four complete zarzuelas that have survived, three can be found on this recording. They contain plenty of mythological references and reveal the true nature of the zarzuela in those days: a style that was far removed from strict poetics of creation, an heir to Calderon's comedy from the Golden Era as well as the Italian dramma per musica.
