    Die Paradoxie des Messias
    Nach seiner meisterhaften Interpretation des höchst theatralischen Oratoriums Saul wendet René Jacobs sich dem Messiah in der Fassung von 1750 mit zwei Alt-Solisten zu. Händel unterzog das Werk vielfachen Veränderungen. Die allgemeine öffentliche Anerkennung des Oratoriums setzte aber erst einige Jahre nach seiner triumphalen Uraufführung in Dublin am 13. April 1742 ein: In London mußte sich der Messiah erst einer Kabale stellen, die umso ungerechtfertigter war, als Händel sich gerade in diesem Werk jeder Theatralisierung der Person und des Leidens Christi enthielt – in gewisser Weise also das genaue Gegenstück zu Saul. Doch hat die Geschichte ihn dafür reichlich entschädigt!
