Die neue Romantik / Pablo Heras-Casado

Since joining the harmonia mundi label, Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado has been keen to promote his “New Romantics” trademark, notwithstanding his much broader repertoire ranging from symphonic works and the music of our time to early music, at the opposite end of the spectrum. While his recordings do take us back in time to the music of Monteverdi, it is after all the music of 19th-century Germany that he invites us to experience with fresh ears: the historically informed performances that he leads at the helm of such outstanding ensembles as the Freiburger Barokorchester give us a chance to hear the music of Beethoven, Schubert, and Schumann...as though we have never heard it before.
