Early music on modern instruments

Far from thumbing its nose, harmonia mundi has since the beginning contributed greatly to the revival of early music, performed on period instruments. It is now apparent that today, more and more of the most talented musicians have acquired enough “historically informed” performing experience to transpose that practice to performances of early music on the instruments of our time: metal (rather than gut) strings, valved brass and keyed woodwind instruments, etc. This trend is hardly retrograde and corresponds instead to a moment of democratisation of repertoire for all performers, not just to playing the keyboard music of J.S. Bach on a Steinway... And once again, here the label is a pioneer!
