Les grands manuscrits musicaux

Essential musical manuscripts

A number of codices have acquired paramount importance in the history of music, because they remain the only link between a given work, an epoch, a composer...and a performer of our day. These manuscripts are invaluable for more than one reason, not the least because of their artistic quality, as was often the case during the Middle Ages. Famed examples of known or anonymous authorship are forever linked to a particular codex, to the point of the physical object becoming the focus of a recording in a kind of discographic tribute.
