Approaching traditional music

What we conventionally call 'classical' music (at least, by virtue of it being written down) has historically been very cognizant of (if not directly inspired by) traditional music in all its forms—mainly rooted in oral transmission. This section illustrates the abundant cross-pollination of these two musical strands that it would be wrong to see as opposites, because the links between them are quite solid, if not always visible.
