Avant-Garde

The avant-garde and the music of today

One could argue that what we now call 'classical' music first started, at least since the time of the Notre-Dame School, as an avant-garde art. The focus of this rubric is more narrow: the post-World War II avant-garde movements and, more generally, new works that have always had a place at harmonia mundi: a label hardly averse to venturing off the beaten path.
