Le style classique viennois sur instruments d’époque

Viennese Classicism and period instruments

Viennese Classicism and period instruments - While harmonia mundi has since at least the 1970s been on the side of Baroque specialists in their study of period style, rhetoric, and instruments, the extension of this historically informed approach towards the Viennese Classical style occurred relatively late. When the music of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven is played on gut strings, on period winds, and on keyboards that have little to do with a modern Steinway—that changes everything. Suffice it to hear the result once—and one begins to want to hear it again and again.
